Today's manna.
**2 Corinthians 12:9 (HNV):** "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
**Context.** Paul writes to the Corinthian church in the mid-50s AD, defending his apostleship against "super-apostles" who boasted of visions and spiritual power. After describing a heavenly vision, he refuses to boast and instead tells of a "thorn in the flesh," a torment he begged God three times to remove. Verse 9 is the answer he received, and the thesis of his whole defense: true apostleship is validated by weakness, not impressiveness.
**Language.** "Sufficient" translates the Greek *arkei*, from *arkeō*, to be enough, to ward off, to protect. It carries the sense of a shield, not a surplus. Grace here is not extra blessing for good days; it is a barrier that holds when strength fails. And His power is *teleitai*, made perfect or complete, in the very place Paul wanted removed.
**Meaning.** For Corinthian hearers, this inverted their expectations. They valued eloquence, status, and spiritual showmanship. Paul's answer to unanswered prayer was not defeat but revelation: the thorn stayed so that Christ's power would be unmistakably the source of everything Paul did.
**Application.** The weaknesses you pray away may be the very places Christ intends to display Himself. Strength for today is not the removal of the thorn but the sufficiency of His grace inside it.
