THE PRAYER Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I bring before You my marriage and my home, and I bring them to You as covenant and not as contract. You have been witness between me and the spouse of my covenant. I call upon You now as the Witness of the vow we made before You on [the day], and I ask You to act on behalf of what You attested. Search me first. Show me my part in what has gone wrong — my hardness, my silence, my harshness, my neglect, my pride, my words. [Confess it specifically.] Forgive me, Lord, and let nothing in my own conduct trench the road my prayers must travel. I forgive my spouse. I release [name] from the record I have been keeping. I lay down the case I have been building. I will not be prosecutor and petitioner at the same time. What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Father, I resist every hand that is dividing this home. I stand against every entanglement, every third party, every interference, every counsel of division, and every spirit of adultery, suspicion, contempt, and rage. Let what has been secret be brought to light, and let every unlawful attachment be broken in the name of Jesus Christ. Now, Lord, do as You did in Hosea. Allure my spouse. Speak upon their heart. Bring them into a place where the noise stops and Your voice can be heard, and there let them remember the days ofour youth. Soften what is hard. Melt what is cold. Restore desire, restore respect, restore tenderness, restore laughter in this house. Restore the third strand. Let this not be two people trying to hold a rope, but a threefold cord that is not quickly broken. Teach us to pray together again, to eat together, to speak plainly and kindly, and to forgive quickly. Cover the children of this house. Heal what they have overheard. Do not let the fractures of the parents become the inheritance of the children. And Father, where I cannot change another person, I will not try to. I place [name] in Your hands, and I ask You to do what only You can do.
