3am Holy Shit Thoughts About AI 😳
Holy shit. I just read some AI news articles, like one does at 3am, and my mind is spinning!
This is a bit weird for me to be sharing these thoughts, in the middle of the night, but in spirit of EO, here is my 5% on AI at this moment. And these are persistent thoughts, for over 25 years.

We know this whole AI thing is coming fast, and 100x bigger than most people anticipate… but my expectation has changed. This is coming much sooner and much bigger than even I thought. I can taste it.
Check out just 3 articles, just from TODAY. And there are hundreds more just like this.
A) USA related AI companies, supported by the US government, to invest hundreds of billions in Saudi Arabia. The sheer size of the capital flowing into AI projects is unprecedented. This is one of many similar and larger investments. We haven’t begun to feel the impact of this in our lives, but we will, soon. The biggest investments are still to be announced, and will likely be in joint military. Just like the Saudi’s committed close to 600B in capital to purchasing American military equipment.

What does this mean for small business investment opportunities? Where should they be urgently hiring? We all need to become tech companies, fast. Why not hire up guys like this, and rapidly accelerate your transition to becoming an AI first company. Oh and instead of USD $150,000/yr + benefits, you just have to pay him more than Door Dash.
3) Then we have Pony AI, quietly out of China, making massive investments in self driving car manufacturing, in partnership with 3 major global car manufacturers (and probably more partners coming soon). https://apple.news/AuFPJwm07SiaSLsPG_VLAgQ. Going public soon to raise billions more to accelerate this. This echos what we're seeing out of other self-driving companies in China, plus Uber & Waymo.
See the connection? Big companies, and governments, that we used to think were world leading, are being forced to partner with each other, urgently, because they realize that China is winning the AI race. Self driving cars. Robotics. Chip manufacturing. Power production. We are losing the race in ALL fronts. Google the charts that show the increase in power production capabilities of countries around the world, and prepare for your jaw to drop.
We are seeing desperate moves to accelerate progress, as they know this is a race for leadership of the new global order. What do you do when you are losing a critical race? You run faster, and you partner up.
It’s unfolding right in front of our eyes, and it feels like we just expect the good ol' days to continue on indefinitely.
I feel like I need to do a new version of the AI wake-up call series, with renewed urgency. And I need to really ramp up the amount of automated AI research I’m doing to make sense of where the next opportunities will be for us entrepreneurs. (Using o3 scheduled tasks to do deep analysis, data extraction, and meta analysis on that data. In human terms: Automated AI research, updated daily, to try and better predict when this is all happening).
I think one of the first things we all need to take super seriously, is AI education. We don’t yet know what the future holds, and how it will impact us all, but we need to start learning, and researching that. And automating the learning.
FAST!
I have several thesis on what comes next, and they are scary, and thrilling. Exciting, and promising, with lots of question marks.
Will government and society step in and try to slow it all down? Or will big tech sidestep us all, to become the new global order?
What will be the constraints of the future, and how can we invest in them today? Land? Minerals? Power production? Data storage? None of the above?
I’ve been thinking about these things casually since 2000 (my first .com start-up), and non-stop since Nov 2022 (the ChatGPT moment) and keep getting amazed at the exponentially increasing probabilities, changing faster each day. This is for sure happening… not if, just when. I think it has already started a slow take off, and I’m not sure we can stop it (due to the prisoners dilemma with countries like China/Russia).
Do any of you wake up in the middle of the night with similar concerns?
We need to form a global AI EO committee that meets regularly to discuss these things, where we can form our own entrepreneurial partnerships, to exponentially accelerate our own progress.
