The Mental Edge Webinar (REPLAY) - in partnership with Girls Golf
The Mental Edge in Golf: Process vs. Outcome Sport psychologist Dr. Mat Park and former LPGA player Cydney Clanton introduced a Girls Golf webinar on building a stronger mental game through mental training. They explain key ground rules: 1. Mental training requires consistent practice like physical training. 2. Growth comes from getting uncomfortable. 3. Confidence is an action built through credible self-talk and body language (“motion creates emotion”). The session contrasts outcome vs. process mindset and teaches the FACE framework—Focus, Attitude, Commitment, Effort—along with a scorecard/journal to track and reflect on mental performance, often by choosing one element to emphasize each round. They address handling frustration after “easy” mistakes, discuss modeling confident behaviors, and cover first-tee jitters by reframing nervousness as excitement and managing energy by shifting mindset laterally rather than forcing calm. Today: I caught myself…
Today I caught myself telling my daughter “not to spill her food on your shirt while she ate.” And guess what happened? You guessed it. She spilled on her shirt. Instantly, I reacted. I told her, “How could you do that?! I just told you not to do it!” And then, I was reminded of this video and my own advice I share to my students in MPGA. Write in the comments if you can relate to this and give an example of a recent time you fell for this trap! https://youtube.com/shorts/iPLe6N2GaXg?si=J-1O8mr-Yv0MUj_t
