🌿 Wellness Wednesday: Creating a Calming Ritual
When our animal companions feel unsettled, we often focus on changing the behavior we can see. Sometimes the most supportive place to begin is by creating an environment that helps everyone feel a little calmer. A simple calming routine might include: ✨ Soft lighting ✨ A quiet, comfortable resting space ✨ Gentle music or calming sounds ✨ A few mindful breaths for yourself ✨ Appropriate use of essential oils, following safety guidelines and your animal companion's preferences Remember: animals experience the world through their senses, and their sense of smell is far more sensitive than ours. Always allow for open airflow, provide choice, and follow the safety recommendations for each individual oil. 💭 Reflection Question: What helps your animal companion feel safe, calm, and comfortable when life feels a little overwhelming? 📖 Want to learn more? Check out the Essential Oils for Animal Companions Guide in the classroom, including safety tips, self-selection guidance, and ten commonly used oils that may support wellbeing for both people and animals.

🎆 Fireworks and Thunderstorms Don't Have to Mean Anxiety and Panic
As many of us are already into storm season, and for us in North America, we will soon find the loud bursts of fireworks as we celebrate our countries independence. It may be fun and exciting for us, but for many animals, loud noises are much more than an inconvenience. Their nervous system can become overwhelmed long before we even realize they're feeling anxious. The good news is that there are many gentle ways we can help, but the sooner we start to implement these tools and techniques the more support it will give to our companions when they really need it. Creating a safe space, preparing ahead of time, supporting their nervous system, and staying calm ourselves can make a significant difference. While every animal is unique, a thoughtful plan before storm season often helps far more than reacting once the fear has already begun. I've updated my Safe and Calm Companion Checklist to include: 🐾 Creating a calming safe space 🐾 Preparing before storms and fireworks 🐾 Sound and visual buffering 🐾 Safe essential oil guidelines 🐾 ThunderShirts and calming wraps 🐾 Nervous system support 🐾 Outdoor safety reminders 🐾 When it's time to involve your veterinarian Remember, this isn't about "fixing" fear—it's about helping our companions feel safe. I'd love to hear what you have tried and what works for you companion. 💭 Reflection Question: Has your animal ever struggled with thunderstorms or fireworks? What has helped them feel the safest? The Safe and Calm Companion Checklist is attached to this post and can be found in the Courses Section
🐾 Essential Oil Tip of the Week
Did you know that animals experience scent very differently than we do? What smells pleasant to us can feel overwhelming to them. That's why one of the most important rules when introducing essential oils is to let your animal choose. When we share our homes with animals (or children), it's important to consider their heightened sensitivities. Essential oils should always be used thoughtfully and according to their intended purpose. Some oils are best applied topically, while others may be used aromatically. Every oil is different, and selection should be based on the individual need while carefully following the label directions and safety guidelines. One simple way to begin is by observing your animal's response to a new scent. Some may show curiosity and interest, while others may choose to walk away. Both responses provide valuable information. Our animals are constantly communicating with us—we just need to pay attention. 💬 Have you ever used aromatherapy with your pet? If so, what seemed to be their favourite scent or essential oil? What did you notice about their response? 🎁 The new Essential Oils for Animals Guide is now available for Level 2 members and can be found inside the Course section. Inside you'll find:• Essential oil safety guidelines• Dilution recommendations• Application tips• Common oils used to support relaxation, emotional balance, skin health, and digestive comfort Remember: when it comes to essential oils and animals, less is often more.
