Welcome to More Than a Meltdown. If you're here, you're not waiting for someone to hand you a diagnosis or a protocol. You want to understand what's actually happening inside your child, and you're willing to do the work to get there. This is a research and education community. Everything in it is built so you can see your own child's picture clearly instead of guessing at it. Most parents arrive at one of two points. Either you suspect something is wrong but you don't know what, maybe strange behavior or a mental health crisis nobody can explain. Or you already have a PANS or PANDAS diagnosis and your child still isn't getting better. Wherever you're starting from, the classroom begins in the same place. 👉 Start with It's Not In Their Head It covers why the behavior was never behavior, what's happening in a body that can't recover the way it should, and why standard labs keep coming back normal when your child clearly isn't. If you don't have a diagnosis yet, this is where you find out what it could be. If you already have one, this is where you find out why it's been so hard to treat. 👉 Then move on to Symptoms vs Systems, which builds on it and goes deeper into the diagnosis and the treatment protocol that sits alongside it. Watch them in order. Everything else stands on those. This group is new, so I'm still adding research, courses and resources. The Screening Guide in Tools and Resources will help you find your next steps, and if you're not sure where to start, ask me in the community and I'll help you. Now introduce yourself. Drop a comment below and tell me what brought you here, and the one thing you most want to understand. I'm so happy to have you here.

Where are you in your P/P journey now?
Every parent is in a slightly different place. Some of you may only be a few weeks into this and still trying to get a doctor to take you seriously. Others are years in and going nowhere. The resources I'm working on next depends on which of those is more important for you now, and right now I'm guessing. Pick whichever is closest. If none of them fit, tell me in the comments.

What Proper Testing Looks Like
This course is coming soon! Testing your home for biotoxins with regard to health is much different than testing done by contractors or standard home inspectors. Testing, cleaning and remediating your environment is critical for recovery. If you need this information immediately, comment here to let me know and I'll direct you to the proper resources.
Why the same treatment works for one child and fails for another
If you've been in the PANDAS and PANS Facebook groups, you see this all the time. Every one of these is being recommended right now in these groups (which is one of the best sources of information rn). Some parents swear by them. Others tried the exact same thing and it made their child worse. Methylene blue, hydroxychloroquine, antibiotics, homeopathy, juicing, zeolite, charcoal, IVIG, essential oils, low dose naltrexone, carnivore diet, hyperbaric oxygen, bee venom, helminth therapy, ozone, IVIG, curcumin, CBD oil, colloidal silver, borax, chlorine dioxide, castor oil packs, frequency machines, infrared saunas, stem cells, fecal transplants, peptides, high dose vitamin C, chelation, antifungals, plasma exchange, LDA immunotherapy, transfer factor, camel milk... 😵‍💫 It starts to feel like playing Russian roulette with your child's condition and your own sanity. So which one do you pick? And when it doesn't work, what then?? And why does this happen? The reason is because your child is at a different stage of illness. ➡️ Why the same treatment gets different results. Dr. Neil Nathan spent 50 years treating the most complex patients in this space. And he noticed something important. ✨The longer somebody stays in a chronic inflammatory state, the more their systems break down. ✨ The nervous system becomes hyper reactive, the immune system stops regulating itself, mast cells start firing at everything. And at a certain point, the child can't even tolerate the supplements that would help them. (Source: Dr. Neil Nathan, Non Toxic Environments interview, 2022. Full transcript available in project files. His book Toxic covers the treatment sensitivity concept in depth.) Nathan also noticed the same inflammatory process looks different depending on when it hits. In young children, it shows up as autism or developmental delays. In kids aged 3 to 13, it looks like PANDAS or PANS. In adults in their 20s to 40s, it becomes chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. And later in life, it presents as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. It's the same process with a different label based on timing.
The most overlooked driver of PANDAS and PANS might be your own home.
The mold that drives this illness often can't be seen at all. A pipe leaks behind a wall, dries out, and leaves growth hidden inside the house with no stain and no smell. And it isn't the mold itself that harms your child. It's the biotoxins it releases which are tiny poisons that float through the air and settle into the body. For 1 in 4 people, these biotoxins cause the immune system to react and it can't shut off the response, so the body stays inflamed and stuck. It won't affect everyone in the house the same way. Most people clear these toxins just fine. That's why the house gets ruled out so quickly, when for some, it's the thing behind it all. For a child with PANDAS or PANS, this matters more than almost anything. A hidden mold load keeps the immune system worn down, so every infection on top of that hits harder and pulls them deeper into systems failure. Your home is either helping your child heal or working against it. Where biotoxins are most commonly found: - Water damaged homes, from roof leaks, plumbing leaks, or flooding - Bathrooms with poor ventilation, behind tiles, under sinks, around tubs and showers - Basements and crawl spaces that stay damp without a dehumidifier - Behind walls and under flooring where old leaks dried unseen - HVAC systems, air ducts, and air conditioning units that hold moisture - Around windows with condensation, drafts from cold air or past leaks - Front loading washing machines, dishwashers, and fridge drip trays - Damp carpets, rugs, and furniture that got wet and never fully dried - Ceiling tiles and drywall that were touched by any water leak - Attics with roof leaks or poor ventilation - Schools and older public buildings with a history of water damage - Cars that have had leaks, flooding, or damp carpets A simple dust test can help you detect if there's mold and point you in the right direction to building a clean environment. Many parents say that simply by moving to a clean home, their child gets significantly better. Others will need treatment because they're locked in cell danger response.
