It's like I've been saying this whole time…
GLP-1 drugs are NOT a weight loss panacea.
I'm not saying these don't have a place in medicine at all…
For some people with SEVERE metabolic dysfunction, perhaps they can be a tool (when all else has failed).
But for the VAST majority of humans, GLP-1s are a huge NET NEGATIVE in my opinion.
Of course, the mainstream media, longevity enthusiasts, celebrities, even some pretty smart individuals I respect have been singing praises about GLP-1s…
How millions of peoples’ lives have been changed.
Hundreds of pounds lost. Overeating and cravings silenced. Behaviors changed. Confidence regained.
But a major new systematic review and meta-analysis published in The BMJ just gave us the answer to the question we’re all asking…
What happens when you STOP?
The study looked at 37 studies involving over 9,300 participants who discontinued GLP-1 medications after losing weight...
And guess what happened?
Weight regain was FASTER than what we see after behavioral interventions like diet and exercise changes - about 0.3 kg (0.7 pounds) per month faster.
And people were estimated to regain a significant portion of their lost weight within 18 months
But here's what really caught my attention...
It's not just the weight that comes back – your hunger signals return with a VENGEANCE.
When you stop taking GLP-1s, your appetite doesn't just "normalize"...
It actually rebounds HARDER than before.
The research shows that weight loss triggers compensatory responses in your body – increased ghrelin (the hunger hormone), decreased leptin, reduced metabolic rate, and ramped-up appetite signals from the hypothalamus.
GLP-1 drugs artificially suppress all of this while you're taking them...
But the second you stop? Your body's defense mechanisms kick in HARD.
Increased hunger... reduced satiety... greater cravings... decreased ability to resist food.
It's like your biology is PUNISHING you for trying to take a shortcut (sounds familiar?)
One expert articulated it perfectly:
"Artificially providing GLP-1 levels several times higher than normal over a long period may cause you to produce less of your own natural GLP-1, and may also make you less sensitive to its effects."
In simple terms, when you're no longer under its synthetic spell, your body's natural GLP-1 production gets downregulated.
And you may be left worse off than when you started.
These drugs are being marketed as this revolutionary solution for obesity and metabolic health…
But this new evidence PROVES it’s another case of SYMPTOM > ROOT CAUSE.
You cannot out-engineer human biology in the long run.
And you sure as hell cannot rely on a pharmaceutical intervention to do what proper diet and lifestyle should be doing naturally.
Why are people struggling with hunger, cravings, and weight gain in the first place?
It's not because they have this unfixable GLP-1 deficiency written in their genetic coding!
It's because the modern world is engineered to dysregulate these exact pathways...
Eating processed garbage full of seed oils and refined sugars…
Spending all day indoors under blue lights and not sleeping..
Chronically stressful and sedentary lifestyles.
Unfortunately, you can’t undo this damage with a few Ozempic shots.
And while it might take a little time, the solution is actually very straightforward.
Live like a human.
High-quality protein elevates GLP-1 levels in the body (PMID: 17065399).
So eat nutrient-dense animal foods.
GLP-1 production runs on your circadian rhythm (PMID: 24789917, 32928871)
So get proper sleep.
Vitamin D influences GLP-1 secretion (PMID: 23264189)
So get outside.
Exercise improves GLP-1 responses (PMC6933827)
So move.
When you send the right evolutionary signals to your body…
Your hormones balance out...
Your satiety signals work properly...
You naturally feel satisfied and won’t crave ultra-processed junk.
And you’ll look, feel and function like you were always supposed to.
I know it's not as sexy as a weekly injection that promises effortless weight loss…
(nor is it something you can patent and sell)
But it's the truth.
And this new research on GLP-1 weight regain echoes what we all know deep down…
Cheating your biology will always come at a cost.
