Ranked profiles vs Moodboards?

I'm new to Midjourney and started in v7. I completed the task of creating a Global 7 profile and have a random profile #1. In experimenting between profiles and no personalization, I don't think I like the influence my profiles have on my images - I may not have done enough rankings to establish a "me" style... wondering if a Moodboard may be a better influence as that seems to rely on groups of images I choose to add?

I also noticed if I try to use personalization in v6.1, my profiles don't work - does personalization have to occur in each version? Was that a thing in previous versions?
