Welcome to Mercury Muse
I’m Maxfield, and I’ve been studying astrology for 47 years. I’m also a writer, and somewhere along the way I discovered that astrology and writing feed each other in profound ways. Mercury Muse is the fruit of that discovery: the rituals, the oracular tools, and the practice I’ve built from years of following that thread. You don’t need to know anything about astrology to be here. You don’t need to think of yourself as a writer. What I offer here are rituals and prompts that use astrological energy as a kind of oracle, something to stir the imagination, crack open a feeling, or point you somewhere unexpected on the page or in your journal. You can follow me deeper into the astrology if you’re curious. You can geek out on the craft of writing if that’s your thing. Or you can just show up, let the ritual do its work, and see what comes out. All of that is welcome here. When you’re ready, drop a hello in the comments. Tell us your name, where you’re coming from, or just say hi. There’s no right way to introduce yourself. Glad you’re here! – Maxfield
Chiron is Approaching Taurus!
Monday Musing ✦ Chiron Crosses into Taurus This Friday, June 19th, Chiron makes its first step into Taurus. It dips back into Aries in September, then back to Taurus in April 2027, where it will stay until July 2033. What arrives Friday is a first kiss. Chiron is the wounded healer. The place in us where the deepest hurt and the deepest wisdom occupy exactly the same ground. It doesn’t promise to fix what’s broken. It promises that what’s broken can become medicine if we are willing to work with the shadows. Taurus is the sign of the body, of the earth underfoot, of resources and worthiness and the slow patient work of making something real. A wound in Taurus asks: do I have enough? Do I deserve what I desire? Is it safe to need? When Chiron moves through Taurus, it illuminates the places where we learned to want things the world wasn’t willing or able to allow us access. This isn’t a transit that heals quickly. Chiron treats the wounds that don’t close but can be alchemized into a healing elixir for ourselves and those around us. That’s the invitation of the next seven years: find your Taurus wound, work through the pain, distill the gifts. This week’s writing prompt: Where does the ache of “not enough” live in you, and what is Chiron asking you to begin alchemizing into medicine? Write toward it. It’s a beginning step on Chiron’s path so let it be unfinished, unpolished. Find your Rising Sign below for a writing prompt designed to bring you to the edge of the wound: ♈ Aries Rising: Write about your relationship with having. Not what you lack, but what it feels like in your body to receive, to own. ♉ Taurus Rising: Write about the wound you carry in simply being yourself. What have you had to become in order to show up at all? ♊ Gemini Rising: Write about the ache you carry alone. What are the pleasures and punishments of solitude? ♋ Cancer Rising: Write about the groups you’ve moved through, the places you’ve tried to fit and those you couldn’t quite find a place in. What does belonging look like to you?

Chiron is Approaching Taurus!
Monday Musings
Thank you, everyone, for being my pioneer members! You get to watch my Skool begin and grow and I am delighted and grateful that you are here! I will be adding offerings, one at a time, building rhythms sustainably so I can continue for a very long time to come. The first thing I’m bringing here is a weekly AstroWriting prompt called Monday Musing. Here is our first Monday Musing! Get your pens out and I hope you enjoy! Monday Musing ✦ The Great Benefics Meet in Cancer Tomorrow, Venus and Jupiter, the two most generous planets in the sky, come together in Cancer, and the sky is asking something tender of us. Venus shines on what we love, what we value, and what the heart reaches toward. Jupiter expands whatever it touches. In Cancer, the sign of home, memory, ancestry, and emotional truth, they’re collaborating on something specific: letting abundance flow through the heart rather than around it. This is luck that comes through vulnerability. Growth that comes through rootedness. This week’s writing prompt: What have you been keeping at arm’s length that actually wants to be let in? Write into that. Let it be messy. Let it be tender. Find your Rising sign below to go deeper: ♈ Aries Rising: Write about home. Your roots. What you come from. What you’re still carrying from the place or people that made you. ♉ Taurus Rising: Write about your voice. The words you learned early. What you were taught to say, and what you learned to leave unsaid. ♊ Gemini Rising: Write about what you value. Not what you think you should value. Write about what actually feels like nourishment to you, like something worth protecting. ♋ Cancer Rising: Write about your body, your presence, the way you move through the world. What does it feel like to be you, right now, in this skin? ♌ Leo Rising: Write about what lives in the quiet. The feeling you can’t quite name. The thing that surfaces only when you’re alone or almost asleep. ♍ Virgo Rising: Write about belonging. The community you have, the community you long for. What does it feel like to be truly among your people?
