I'm Stuart Bannerman, I run Up North Productions, and for the last 9 years I've been filming grassroots and non-league football matches: highlights, reels, full-match footage, livestreams. I built it from zero into something that actually pays, and this community is where I share how I do all of it. It's for you if you want to film local football and turn it into an audience and an income — whether you've never picked up a camera or you're already filming and want to grow faster. One thing to get out of the way: don't worry about "giving away your edge." This game is local. Someone filming in Devon is no rival to someone up north — we all win by getting better together. What gear do I actually need to start?
The most common question I get: "what do I need to start?" Short answer — less than you think. You do not need a £4,000 camera. When you're starting, what matters is a stable, high, wide shot that follows the play, filmed at 60fps so the motion's smooth. That's it. What are you all working with at the minute? Drop your setup below — camera, tripod, whatever you've got — and if you're thinking of buying, ask before you spend. Cheaper to ask here than to waste money on kit you don't need.
