Honestly, they're not the most important thing on your profile. They sit so far down the page that most recruiters never even scroll to them.
BUT, having 3 or 4 does add a nice layer of credibility, and they take about 2 minutes to get.
You can request one from literally anyone (through LinkedIn). A lecturer, a classmate, someone you did work experience with, a manager from a part-time job. They don't need to write an essay a few sentences does the job.
💡 If you're on LinkedIn Premium trial: you can pin a recommendation straight to your Featured section so it's one of the first things people see. That's where it actually gets noticed.
💡 The only time I've seen it make a big impact was someone had 40 recommendations and mentioned this in their headline. It was instantly impressive and made him very different.
