Renowned BJJ coach John Danaher believes that every practitioner has a unique strength in Jiu-Jitsu, even if they don’t realize it at first.
Danaher emphasized that while some athletes excel in athleticism, technique, or strategy, others may have an exceptional ability to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly, or focus on details others overlook. He encouraged students to identify their natural talents and develop a game around them rather than forcing themselves into a style that doesn’t suit them.
He also noted that coaches play a vital role in recognizing and nurturing these gifts to help students reach their full potential.
