SETTING GOALS: BASKETBALL TIPS 🏀
You HAVE to set goals. You can’t just go into a season and wing it. NOPE. ❌
If you’re serious about getting better, you need to know what you’re working toward. And I’m not just talking about saying, “I want to get better at basketball.” That’s too vague.
Get SPECIFIC. 🎯
Want to average 15 points per game? Improve your three-point percentage? Become a better defender? Earn more playing time? Get stronger, improve your ball handling, or become a better leader?
WRITE IT DOWN.
Set goals for your season. Set goals for your workouts. Set goals for the areas of your game you need to improve. The more detailed you are, the better you can track your progress and hold yourself accountable.
And listen, your goals don’t have to be HUGE. Maybe you want to make 50 free throws every day. Maybe you want to cut down on turnovers. Maybe you want to earn a spot in the starting lineup. Or maybe your goal is to play college basketball someday.
I don’t care how big or small your goals are. I care that you have something you’re working toward.
Because if you don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish, how do you know if you’re making progress?
Don’t just hope you have a good season. Don’t just show up to practice and expect to improve.
SET THE GOAL. MAKE THE PLAN. PUT IN THE WORK. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS.
Your goals won’t accomplish themselves. But if you give yourself something to chase and commit to the work it takes to get there, you give yourself a real chance.
Now grab a notebook and write down 3 goals for this season. What are you going to work toward? 👇
