Stop letting other people set limits on what you can achieve. Stop letting them talk down on your goals, question your potential, or determine your worth. Don’t let anyone dull your shine.
As a high school athlete, you’re going to hear a lot of opinions about what you can and can’t do. Some people will doubt you. Some will tell you that you’re not good enough. Some will try to convince you to lower your expectations because THEY can’t see what you see in yourself.
Don’t buy into it.
Nobody knows your full potential except you and God. Your job isn’t to convince everybody else that you’re capable. Your job is to put in the work, stay disciplined, and give yourself a chance to find out just how good you can become.
Look at LeBron James. He averaged over 20 points per game in his 40s, and people STILL find reasons to criticize him. One of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball, and somehow, it’s never enough for everybody.
That’s the lesson: no matter what you accomplish, you will never meet everybody else’s expectations.
So why spend your life chasing them?
Stop comparing your journey to your teammates. Stop measuring your worth by your playing time, points per game, rankings, offers, or what people say about you. Those things can matter, but they don’t define who you are or who you can become.
Set YOUR goals. Maybe you want to make varsity. Maybe you want to earn a starting spot, get a college offer, become a better shooter, or simply become the hardest worker in the gym.
Whatever it is, own it. Write it down. Make a plan. Put in the work when nobody is watching.
You don’t need everybody to believe in you. You need to believe in yourself enough to keep going when they don’t.
And remember, in a world full of imperfect people, you will never be perfect in everybody’s eyes. So stop trying to be.
Set your own expectations. Do your best. Celebrate your progress. And make YOURSELF proud.
At the end of the day, the only person you have to live with is yourself. Make sure you can look in the mirror and know you gave it everything you had.
Now go chase something that matters to YOU. 💯🏀
