You can do EVERYTHING right and still have a bad game. 🤷♂️
You can train hard all week, get your shots up, eat right, get enough sleep, watch film, and show up prepared. Then the game comes around, and NOTHING seems to fall.
You’re missing shots in warmups. Your confidence starts dropping. Shots you normally make with your eyes closed aren’t going in. You start overthinking, forcing things, and questioning all the work you’ve put in.
Sound familiar?
Listen, sometimes it’s just not your day. And that’s OKAY.
Basketball is a game of skill, momentum, and sometimes a little luck. You can prepare as perfectly as possible and still have things go against you. That doesn’t automatically mean you’re a bad player or that your hard work isn’t paying off.
THE REAL TEST ISN’T HOW YOU PLAY WHEN EVERYTHING GOES RIGHT. IT’S HOW YOU RESPOND WHEN NOTHING DOES.
Do you put your head down and quit? Do you let one bad shooting night affect your confidence for the next three games? Do you stop playing defense because your shot isn’t falling?
OR…
Do you keep competing? Make the extra pass. Get the stop. Dive for the loose ball. Communicate on defense. Find another way to help your team win.
High school basketball is full of ups and downs. You’re going to have games where you feel unstoppable, and you’re going to have games where you can’t buy a bucket.
Both are part of the journey.
You have to learn to separate your performance from your preparation. One bad game doesn’t erase weeks of hard work. And one great game doesn’t mean you’ve figured everything out.
CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL. ACCEPT WHAT YOU CAN’T. KEEP COMPETING.
Basketball is a lot like life. You can make all the right decisions, put in all the work, and still not get the outcome you wanted.
That doesn’t mean you stop working. It means you learn, adjust, and show up ready to go again.
You won’t win every game. You won’t make every shot. You won’t always get the results you want.
But you ALWAYS control how you respond. 💯
