One of the most underrated skills in basketball isn’t your jump shot—it’s how quickly you can find the rim.
In games, defenders close out fast, passing windows are small, and you rarely have more than a fraction of a second to shoot. The faster your eyes locate the basket, the faster your body can organize itself into a balanced shooting position.
In this workout, I start facing away from the basket, perform different combo moves, then turn, immediately locate the rim, get my feet set, and fire. The goal isn’t just making shots—it’s training your brain and body to work together under time pressure.
Sports science shows that elite athletes develop faster visual processing, reaction time, and perception-action coupling—the ability to take in visual information and instantly turn it into movement. By repeatedly locating the basket and shooting without hesitation, you’re training your eyes to find the target faster, your feet to get underneath you quicker, and your shot to become more automatic.
The result?
• Faster shot preparation.
• Quicker release.
• More confidence.
• Better game-speed decision making.
Don’t just practice shooting when everything is perfect. Practice finding the basket first—because in real games, that’s often the hardest part.
Train your eyes. Train your feet. Train your shot. Then trust the work.
