Consistency & Repetition 🏀🎯
18/19 from the same spot.
Same footwork.
Same setup.
Same eyes.
Same catch.
Same shot.
Same follow-through.
Same landing.
That’s the goal.
Shooting isn’t about making every shot look perfect. It’s about building a repeatable movement pattern that gives you the best chance to make the shot over and over again.
Get your eyes on the rim. Get your feet organized toward the target. Catch it the same way. Get into the shot the same way. Finish the same way.
Then do it again.
And again.
And again.
That’s where the reps matter.
Research on motor learning shows that practice can reduce movement variability and improve the consistency of skilled movements. Basketball-specific research has also found that more skilled shooters demonstrate greater consistency in parts of their shooting motion, particularly around the elbow and wrist.
But there’s an important distinction: consistency doesn’t mean robotic. Great shooters still make small adjustments. The goal is to make the important parts of your shot repeatable enough that your body doesn’t have to reinvent the movement every time.
You’re building a pattern.
The more quality reps you get, the more familiar that pattern becomes—and the more you give yourself a chance to execute it when it actually matters.
Don’t just get shots up. Get quality reps in.
Consistency creates confidence.
Repetition creates consistency.
And quality repetition builds your shot. 🏀
