Leadership by committee does not work
I volunteer for a car club and this year we couldn't find someone to take charge of one of our biggest events. So the executive team formed a committee instead.
The result → things barely move, mostly pushed by 3 people while everyone else is just there.
The problem with everyone owning everything is that no one owns anything in full, so things are getting done, just not well. If you look at armies, they have a strict chain of command, because it works, even under pressure. Leadership by committee does not.
The tricky part is that everyone here is a volunteer. I can't expect people to do what they don't want to do. So I'm stuck between knowing what works and not being able to enforce it. Why would I not volunteer myself? It is a time commitment I wasn't able to make this year.
Can any of you recommend an approach to working with volunteers?
