Reading app 📖 is live to try out!
Salam everyone👋 I put the reading app live _temporarily_ for everyone to try out at this link: https://nahwai-staging.vercel.app/reading-oai There are 3 materials you can read for now. Steps to follow: 1. Click on 1 of the reading materials 2. Click on start reading (allow microphone if it doesn’t ask you) 3. Read the greyed out phrase (make sure you're close to the mic) As you read you’ll see words turn red, yellow and green. You can skip to the next sentence by clicking “Next sentence” or when you reach above a threshold in your pronunciation score. **Disclaimer (and thanks to @Nia D for bringing this up):** This app uses OpenAI but all recording permissions are disabled, so your data is safe. I don’t trust these AI companies and they’re not great for Arabic either, so I’m hoping to soon train my own model to be granular in its mistake correction, down to the haraka. Anyways, try it out and let me know what you think in the comments below or DM me 🙏 P.S. app is not complete, so if you try to go to other pages you won't find anything.
Let's bring this community alive again!
Alsalamu Alaykom everyone, nshalla you're all well. I'm sorry I haven't been active in this community for a while but I'm going to start rebooting things with you guys in the coming weeks. To start things off, I've spoken to a lot of you about what you need to work on to achieve your goals in Arabic. Two main things people kept saying: **reading and vocabulary.** So I made an app to help you read WITHOUT tashkeel. Since most Arabic text doesn't have it and makes it tough to read, that can also block you from building your vocabulary. The app will have word-level mistake correction and eventually letter-level correction to improve your pronunciation and make sure you're reading every haraka correctly. It will feature 3 main pages: - Reading: curated content you can practice on - Vocabulary: your bookmarked words to refer back to - Leaderboards: your streak and avg. score compared to others on the app so we can motivate each other to get better Looking forward to hear your thoughts. If you want to try it let me know, give a 👍 in the comments :)
Launch of Nahw.ai 🚀
Salam everyone, hope you're all well! I know the group hasn't been as active as before but I'm making sure that we don't keep it as such. I've finally launched the Arabic exercise tool at https://nahw.ai, try it out! Some of you have tried out a previous version, and through your feedback I was able to improve it in the last few days, so see your suggestions implemented in the demo video :) Thanks a lot for your help 🙏 This tool can help with: - nahw practice: add harakat on words by clicking on the letters, hover over the question mark and see the correct tashkil, ask the AI to explain why a word gets a case-ending if you still don't understand it - reading practice: read simple and short sentences, practice with or without tashkil, and hear a spoken version of the sentence in a native Arab voice - speech & pronunciation: you can keep listening to the sentence and repeat after it to improve your pronunciation and speech - build vocabulary: hover over any word and get the English translation, more languages coming soon I hope you enjoy it! Would love to hear your feedback in the comments and any suggestions for other Arabic exercises you wish to see but haven't found online. My plan is to make a suite of Arabic exercises that are meaningful and focus on improving specific functions of your Arabic language. Thanks everyone! ✌️ P.S. the website is not optimized for mobile, advised to use only on desktop for now :)
🚨 COMMUNITY UPDATE 🚨
Salam everyone! Hope every one is well. Apologies for not being very active this last week. I realized that I took on multiple things that I couldn't juggle. So I've decided to slow things down. To do so, I'm pausing our live classes for now in order to focus on building the course pack (already in progress, see classroom) and provide weekly challenges and vocabulary. Once these are good to go, we can hopefully reboot live classes and think of other ways to improve the community. Step by step we'll get there :) والسلام عليكم
