Family Compound
Good morning, I am new to this community. My wife and I purchased 2 adjacent properties 7.5 acres and 36.5acres for a total of 44 acres in Tangipahou Parish, Louisiana. This property has not been run as a farm or any other agricultural venture for many many years. The 2 properties have 1 home on each parcel, the larger property also has a large old, open sided shed for storage of equipment. The property is 1/2 open grass and half wooded. We purchased this property to create a family compound for our adult children and grandchildren. There have been many ideas about various business opportunities for using the property to earn income. We have settled on three initial ideas to maximize our return on the capital investment we are prepared to make. The first is to use the second smaller home as a short term rental (AirBnB) while it is not being occupied, the second is to advertise the property for photographers to use as a backdrop/rural location, the third is a small cottage industry stand on the property located as close to the main highway as we can while still being on our property. The fourth idea which I feel could be the most lucrative but also most costly to get started is to use a section of the property as a Wedding/event venue. I have searched through the Parish/County website looking through regulations and codes that would give me some idea of what we can or can not do on the property and have found some info but not enough to feel confident that any of our ideas could actually come to fruition. Any suggestions you might have for finding the needed info, and then securing the needed permits, licenses, etc.. to move forward would be appreciated. We are also open to other ideas for profitable revenue generation. We have plenty of land to use for agricultural ventures but we have no experience at growing anything. We have considered live stock but the property is wide open with no fencing of any kind. Your suggestions advice and ideas are welcome and would be appreciated.
