A soul tie is a deep spiritual and emotional bond between two people. The Bible describes humanity as being body, soul, and spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions—so when it ties to another person, you become knit together in a way that affects your heart, decisions, and even spiritual walk.
The word knit is used in Scripture to describe close bonds:
1 Samuel 18:1 – “The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” (A godly soul tie—friendship in covenant love.)
But sin can corrupt this bond:
1 Corinthians 6:16 – “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’” (An ungodly soul tie through sexual sin.)
- Godly Soul Ties (Healthy Attachments)
These are relationships aligned with God’s will, rooted in covenant, love, and purity. Examples:
Marriage covenant (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5–6) – husband and wife become “one flesh.”
Healthy friendships and spiritual family (Ruth and Naomi in Ruth 1:16–17; Jonathan and David).
Discipleship and spiritual covering (Paul and Timothy, Philippians 2:22).
Characteristics:
✅ Rooted in Christ
✅ Lead to love, growth, and righteousness
✅ Respect free will and boundaries
✅ Encourage holiness
- Ungodly Soul Ties (Unhealthy Attachments)
These form when relationships are built on sin, manipulation, idolatry, or emotional dependency.
Through sexual sin outside of marriage (1 Cor. 6:16).
Through idolatrous relationships (putting someone above God – Exodus 20:3).
Through control and manipulation (Jezebel/Ahab dynamic – 1 Kings 21).
Through toxic or abusive bonds that keep you bound in fear, shame, or guilt.
Characteristics:
❌ Rooted in sin or emotional bondage
❌ Produce confusion, lust, fear, or control
❌ Distract from God’s call and purpose
❌ Rob peace and spiritual clarity
- Prayer to Break and Renounce Ungodly Soul Ties
Pray this aloud if possible—it carries authority when spoken.
Heavenly Father,
I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I thank You that through His blood I have redemption, forgiveness, and authority over every work of darkness.
Lord, I repent for every sin that opened the door to ungodly soul ties in my life—whether through sexual sin, emotional dependency, manipulation, or idolatry. I confess and renounce these sins before You. Wash me clean in the blood of Jesus.
In the authority of Jesus Christ, I now break and sever every ungodly soul tie between myself and [name or names if needed]. I cut off every spiritual cord of bondage, lust, control, fear, and manipulation that has bound my soul. I declare that I am no longer tied to [name(s)], but I am united only with Christ.
I renounce every spirit that used these soul ties to gain access to my life. I command every demonic influence that entered through these ties to leave me now, in the name of Jesus. You have no legal right over me.
Holy Spirit, I invite You to heal and restore my soul. Where my heart has been fragmented, bring me wholeness. Where my emotions have been entangled, set me free. Where my identity has been distorted, reestablish me in Christ.
I now reclaim every part of my soul that was tied to another, and I release back to them every part of their soul that has been tied to me. I declare complete freedom and cleansing through the blood of Jesus.
From this day forward, I dedicate my heart, mind, body, and relationships fully to the Lord Jesus Christ. Surround me with Your angels, Lord, and protect me from forming ungodly ties again. Teach me to walk in purity, discernment, and healthy godly connections that honor You.
I declare Galatians 5:1: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Thank You, Father, for setting me free. I am Yours alone.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
