Thought I'd share a few reflections from my Free Book Promotion.
I signed up for Kindle Select when I published my book last November and did nothing with it until July.
- I didn't realize how giving my book away for free would benefit me. It seemed like it would just take sales away, but now I understand how it drove traffic which can show Amazon it's a book to show more people. It made it as far as #3 in all it's categories (for free books!) I saw my rankings improve significantly. Also, as it went on I got really excited about people having and reading my book.
- Even though I gave my book away free it was still one of my biggest months in KDP royalties
- It was by far the biggest month in people reading my book, with over 6k pages read vs an average of less than 3k.
I'm experimenting more now that I see how easy it is. I had intended to raise my ebook price incrementally over the first few months but never did. After the promotion I finally raised it. This quarter I'm going to experiment with running a sale vs free.
I wish I had started experimenting with it earlier!
