Blues Etude Challenge
I put this etude together for myself, it a bunch of stuff that I like to play on a blues in F. It doesn’t really stop, it’s not really the most musical thing I’ve put together but so wanted to solidify some ideas I already play in this key in some more difficult keys. Il be spending my practise time trying to play this whole thing in all 12 keys, I already tried Ab which has not been fun! My challenge for you is to record a version of you playing this in any key you want. It’s a difficult one this time, the first person who does this gets a free 30 minute lesson. Matt

Exercise on Motif from Practice Club 19/01
I've been mucking around with this today, trying to find context to apply yesterday's PC motif. Here are short repetitive phrases over Coquette again. Ive targeted the 1st, 3rd and 5th of some of the chords. Not sure if it all works though. Also today, I tried running the motif through the modes in a few different keys (including G flat. That was painful!). However, it's amazing how well that works to really absorb the material. When you get back to 'easy' keys it flows so much better.

Blues!
Just followed your Class 1 on the Blues Matt - so helpful and great to get away from the dots and focus on the ears!
Transcribing Clifford Brown on Cherokee
Working on this transcription I’ve been trying for a while. It’s super hard. I’m focusing on getting at least the rest of the first a section down before I start trying to get it up to speed. Let me know what you are up to!

Diminished chord practise
I took a short bit of the line we worked on in the Practise Club yesterday and used it to explore different V7 → i minor progressions where the A diminished works. A diminished 7th chord can be used over a dominant chord that’s a semitone below its root. Because a diminished 7th chord is made up of the same interval stacked over and over, the same diminished chord works in four different keys. So A°7 can be used over G#7, B7, D7, and F7. I played the same basic line each time, just changing the ending slightly to fit each key. Here are the progressions I played it over: • D7 → G minor • F7 → Bb minor • G#7 → C# minor • B7 → E minor
