Challenge! Record your version of this, depending on what’s doable for you, either… In the original key (C Major over a G7) In a few other keys Inside an improvisation over a standard Or as we did last night in practise club, see below… We worked on this one in practise club last night. We took the pattern that this line is based on and played it all the way through all the chords in the C major scale, helping us understand why the melody works and how we can use it. What does this do? “How” or “what”
A question for you today. As jazz violinists, when you practice, do you mainly work on “how” you execute your notes or “what” notes you play?

this is -from my point of view- alpha and omega of the whole thing. i think it has lot to do with how u started. musically, i was brought up in very conservative ''classical'' way (im not necessarily talking about repertoire, more about the perspective u use to sort things out). especially at conservatory, my professor was a fan of what i call ''the russian aproach''...there was lot of strictness, shouting and agressivity...all the things, which, in my opinion, are very dangerous for a 15yo little kid...(im sure most of us have seen the lovely jazz movie called Whiplash- i mean nobody was throwing cymbals at me, but the intensity was VERY similar). it was kind of hard and it definitely took a toll on me somehow, but on the other hand it gave me couple of great tools, when we are talking about tone, intonation and kind of ''boldness'' of expression. (dont get me wrong, im very well aware of my limitations in that department and i realize them, but i somehow know how to deal with them) and even after 10 years of not playing at all, i was still able to use those fundamentals and kind of hop back on. but when we talking about WHAT to play, that just takes me enormous amount of time and thinking, but thats just this genre i guess. once i crack something up in my head i know im safe already, because then its just about time, effort and focus to make it sound nice and i dont have a slightest problem with applying myself to that. its alchemy 🙂

Matts Enclosures Book
I decided to go back to some basics this week. I have been practising lick 1g, chapter one in Matts book, as a warm up exercise in12 keys. In then decided that I needed to apply it to a tune, with my own variations arising out of it. So here it is on Daphne!

@Matt Holborn thx man.that lesson we had helped me a lot!im not saying im analyzing every Simple chord but im spending a lot of time playing scales over songs (even at very high tempos) and that helps a lot with filling thé Blank spots And having bit more Freedom on the fretboard 👍🙏

@Kaia K yeah i've spent quite some time on that bridge.i think the mystery with any complicated chord progression such as this one Is to really follow And honor the melody (not necesarily the original one) when improvising
