Flashback to 1909 Kitsilano Beach ☀️ The Vancouver Board of Park and Recreation built a boat house at the beach. How are you enjoying Mother's Day in Vancouver today?

I finished up my work day around 2pm yesterday and headed along the Arbutus Greenway to Kitsilano. I stopped along the 5th Avenue public gardens and chatted with a few locals. I was happy to see my old corner store, Helen's Grocery, at 5th and Yew has been transformed into a Nomad coffee shop. I used to go to Helen's (as we'd always refer to the store by) on the weekends when I was probably 6 or 7 to return our family pop bottles, pick up a carton (or bag) of milk and sneak a jaw breaker without the shop owner noticing (he always noticed). The kids tried to make a go of the store after their parents passed, but big box retailers made it difficult for the little guys to keep up and it stood vacant for several years. Whether you're a new resident of Vancouver, or have been here since forever!!, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀.

English Bay and Spanish Banks both trace back to a 1792 moment when British and Spanish explorers met off Vancouver’s coast.
