Unfortunately, I waited a full year after my stroke before deciding to play guitar again—or more accurately, to relearn it. My first neurologist told me I would never hold or play a guitar again. Needless to say, I found a new doctor! Eventually, I made my own declaration of independence: I was going to relearn guitar. Before my stroke, I played guitar for the U.S. Air Force—tough job, right? Today, I proudly use the term Stroke Warrior, and I have been blessed to meet so many fellow recovering Stroke Warrior musicians. I am witnessing miracles. The attached video shows where it all began four years ago. Through the power of the human spirit, music, encouragement, and—most of all—faith and prayer, I am now about 70 percent recovered in my guitar playing and striving for 100 percent. “Oh yes, it will be mine”—a Wayne’s World quote. Amen!
