5 struggles
Family: My parents had a very messy separation when I was about 13 years old and it destroyed any stability in my home life. My younger brothers and I were passed back and forth between parents and often got stuck in the middle of their arguments. As time went on dad got more and more distant as he got deeper into alcohol and relationships with toxic women. He left his job as a project manager at nvidia and essentially gave up on the family. My mom did the best she could, but she has some pretty bad mental health issues and has always struggled to make ends meet. In 2021 I decided to run away from the situation. I packed up and moved from San Jose CA to Las Vegas NV by myself at the age of 21 with the goal of becoming a circus performer. I live every day trying to prove that I made the right decision and I want to make enough money to help my mom get back on her feet.
Anxiety- I have lived with social anxiety for my whole life. In school I was extremely shy and always got picked on. Performing and social media are my way of trying to break out of that and prove that I can be somebody. However I struggle to make progress because putting myself out there feels very uncomfortable and my anxiety always has me second guessing myself.
Loneliness: My life in Vegas has been very lonely. When I first got here I thought I would live with my half aunt and that she would help me get on my feet. But from the very first night it was clear that she really didn't want anything to do with me other than having me pay more than half of her rent for a bed in the living room. I walked out in the middle of the night and have been on my own ever since. I am constantly looking for somewhere to belong and that has caused me to become attached to some pretty shitty people.
Addiction: I have an addictive personality and it has gotten me into a lot of trouble for about two years. I was heavily into drugs, partying and gambling. This has really held me back on my goals and I am still in debt from it.
Makeup - My performance career began to take off recently when I created the character of Zero The Klown and hired a haunt artist to do my makeup for a few shows. The videos from those events are my most viewed on Instagram and I have booked several upcoming Halloween gigs from them. The only problem is that my makeup artist won't be available for most of them and I honestly feel like a traditional when I don't do the paint myself. I do not want to be known for a look that I can't do so I have started learning and doing shows in my own makeup. The comparison between my work and hers makes me feel like a temu version of myself. That is not a good feeling at all. I worry that gigs will feel bait and switched when I promote with photos of her makeup work then show up in mine.
Contrasting wins
My parents showed me a lot of what not to do. Getting away has allowed me to find myself and learn to be independent. Being forced out of my comfort zone was ultimately a good thing and my struggle fuels my motivation to succeed.
I am learning to turn my anxiety into excitement by relabeling it as a positive high energy state instead of trying to calm down. Anxiety and excitement share the same biological responses and it is easier to flip the emotion than to shift states. I am passionate about my work and excited to share it with the world.
It is better to be lonely than to be around people who block my growth. Now instead of chasing shitty friends I take dance classes and attend creative networking events. These spaces allow me to connect with quality people who push me forward instead of holding me back.
I've replaced my drug addiction with an addiction to progress. I am having a blast creating character and performing as them. All of my attention and finances need to go into that. There is no room for anything that doesn't help me grow.
Getting my make up done elevated my confidence to a whole new level and the attention that I am getting from the character is a big win. It probably wouldn't hurt to share my feelings about the makeup situation and document the process of improving my skills..

“I hired someone to do my makeup and it led to some of my best shows.. but now that I'm known for the look I need to be able to do it myself. Transitioning from professional makeup to my own makes me feel like a temu version of myself and that is a really shitty feeling but it's also a motivator. With enough practice I can become a bad ass makeup artist as well as performer..”
