📞 A random customer support call turned into something special
Yesterday I got a call from our car insurance company.
We’re new customers, so they were just reaching out to welcome us.
The woman on the phone was kind. But, I was not.
I was having a rough day. Honestly, I felt stuck.
I realized I might have been heading in the wrong direction on a project, which made it worse.
So I paused and told her the truth. “Hey, I’m sorry. I’m having a rough day.”
She asked what I do for work.
I told her. “I help people solve business problems, increase revenue, and reduce costs using AI.”
She immediately said something that stuck with me. “AI kind of intimidates me.”
That shifted the whole conversation.
I told her that she does not need to master everything, just follow what interests her.
Each of us has things we are naturally good at, things that energize us.
We talked about purpose.
How finding it can feel like a maze. How it is not always clear. But it is there.
I shared that I believe God is with us in that process, and that we can actually ask for direction.
From there, it turned into something deeper.
  • Do not settle into a boring life
  • Do not go home feeling stuck or disconnected
  • Set goals
  • Try things
  • Get involved in your community
  • Make progress, even if it is small
I said, "Isn't it amazing how school doesn't teach us any of this, even though we spend 12+ years in the school system."
The truth is...
We are all capable of living an extraordinary life.
And most of the time, that life is found in serving others and following curiosity.
She told me I should be a motivational speaker, after which I replied, "Yes, I am trying to do that, actually."
This woman was not just a customer service rep.
She was a human being. A mother. A daughter.
And it reminded me.
Even when you are off, even when the timing feels wrong, you still have the ability to impact someone’s life.
And be impacted right back.
Share with us what your thoughts are here and how you've found purpose or had any conversations like this.
