Improv on 1st 3 notes Brandon Lakes Gratitude Song
I have been listening to Victor Wooten's book The Lesson, and it has been so helpful for me. It is a book that is liberating my playing, and what he is teaching goes along with everything Vic is teaching or unteaching us.
I decided to try to play a random song that youtube suggests. I figured out the key and only used the first 3 notes of the scale to improv on, so I could focus on things like movement, dynamics, etc I found out the key was in Bb before I recorded this. Using only those 3 notes was very helpful and worked. What I liked, is that I felt like I was more free than ever and what I didn't like was that I jumped octaves too much in one phrase.
If you haven't read or listened to The Lesson, I would highly suggest it.
