I'm so grateful I started my Practice Note Practice Journal this week. I'm already feeling more motivated to practice my fundamentals! And I'm glad I'm tracking it. One of the things in my practice journal is to sight-read 20 licks. Thanks for this book, 1001 Licks. I'll be suggesting this book to all my new students as a way to incorporate "new vocabulary" and to encourage thinking on your feet. I like to do this with many rhythmic variations - repeating any section that feels "sticky" or incorrect. 100% accuracy to the written notes is not the main goal -- smoothness and composure overall is the goal.
Record yourself and listen for your trouble spots as well as your shining moments!
Here's a picture from my journal. And the rhythm backing track I was playing with. And recordings of my licks practice time!
