Why I don’t stick to just one way of training
One thing I’ve noticed from doing YouTube and just being in fitness for a long time is how easy it is to fall into camps.
Bands vs weightsMachines vs free weightsCertain programs, certain “gurus,” etc. I actually like when people are passionate about what they’re doing no question.
What I don’t really understand is when people start arguing one method or one piece of equipment is the answer and everything else is wrong. That’s usually where I see people actually get stuck or just jump to the next thing.
Especially with home gyms, I think the biggest mistake is trying to force one tool to do everything.
What I’ve found works a lot better (and is honestly more fun) is mixing things based on what they do well.
-Bands give you great constant tension and can be really joint friendly
-Free weights just feel raw and hard to replace for loading and progression
-Machines are nice for controlled, targeted work
-Sliding bench trainers let you hit some unique angles and string things together in ways you normally can’t
None of these are perfect on their own. But when you combine them, you can build something that actually fits (and is unique to) you instead of trying to force yourself into one system.
Anyway, just some thoughts, I’ll share more of how I actually put this stuff together as this page progresses.
Curious what you guys are mainly using right now and or questions you may have for future content over here.
Thanks
