Today's practice is short. But it's going to show you something about yourself.
I call it the Override Audit. And when I first did this on myself, it was uncomfortable in the best possible way.
The Override Audit (10 minutes)
Sit quietly. Have something to write with.
Bring to mind three decisions from the past year — one small (daily life), one medium (relationships or work), one large (a major life choice).
For each one, ask:
- What did I know immediately, before I thought about it?
- What did I do instead?
- Why?
Most people find the same override patterns showing up again and again:
→ I overrode my knowing because I didn't want to disappoint someone. → I overrode it because I was afraid of what acting on it would mean. → I overrode it because I thought I was imagining it. → I overrode it because someone else was very sure, and I trusted their certainty more than my own quiet.
Awareness is where change begins.
Write down your pattern. Just name it. Something will shift when you do.
