Egg cleansing ritual
The egg cleansing ritual also known as the limpia in Latin American traditions is one of the most powerful and ancient energy clearing practices in existence. It has been used for thousands of years across cultures from Mexico to the Philippines, from Africa to Southern Europe.
An egg is a living, porous object. It absorbs energy. And when used with clear intention it can pull stagnant, heavy or foreign energy from your field in a way that few other tools can match.
Here is how to do a full egg cleansing ritual properly. From preparation to reading the results.
What you will need
A fresh raw egg at room temperature. Do not use a refrigerator-cold egg as the temperature difference can interfere with the process. One egg is usually enough for a full body cleanse. Two if you feel particularly heavy.
A glass of water — clear, plain water. A transparent glass so you can see clearly.
Salt — a pinch to add to the water after the ritual.
Optional — a white candle, incense or sage to cleanse the space before you begin.
Step 1 — Prepare your space
Before you begin, take a moment to cleanse the space around you. Open a window. Light a candle or some incense. Take three slow deep breaths and set a clear intention.
Say aloud or in your mind something like: "I am clear in my intention. I ask that this ritual remove all energy that is not mine, all heaviness, all blockages, all that no longer serves my highest good."
Your intention is what activates the practice. Do not skip this step.
Step 2 — Prepare yourself
Stand or sit comfortably. Take a moment to feel into your body. Notice where you feel heavy, tense or blocked. You do not need to analyse it — just notice.
Hold the egg in both hands for a moment. Breathe onto it. This connects your energy to the egg and prepares it to work with your specific field.
You can say a prayer, an intention or simply breathe. Whatever feels true for you.
Step 3 — The cleansing
Begin at the top of your head. Hold the egg gently and move it in slow circular motions — always moving downward, from head to feet. You are literally pulling energy down and out of your field.
Work slowly and methodically through each area of your body.
Head and crown — circular motions, slow and intentional. This clears mental heaviness, overthinking, confusion and psychic interference.
Face and throat — pay attention here. The throat holds a lot of unexpressed emotion and blocked communication.
Chest and heart — move the egg over your heart centre with extra care. This is where grief, heartbreak and emotional heaviness accumulate most.
Solar plexus and stomach — this area holds anxiety, fear and control. Spend time here especially if you have been feeling anxious or powerless.
Hips and lower body — this area holds ancestral energy, survival fears and old patterns that are deeply rooted.
Arms and hands — do not forget these. We give and receive through our hands and they accumulate a lot of energy especially if you do healing work.
Back of the body — ask someone to help you, or simply intend that the egg is also clearing your back as you move it down the front. The back holds energy we are not aware of — things we carry without knowing.
Feet — finish at the feet and sweep the egg down and away from your body, as if brushing the energy off completely.
The whole process should take around 5 to 10 minutes. Go slowly. Trust what you feel.
Step 4 — Break the egg into water
Once you have completed the full body clearing — crack the egg into your glass of water.
Do this carefully. You want the yolk and white to fall in intact if possible.
Do not stir. Do not shake. Just let it settle for a moment. Then hold the glass up to natural light or a lamp and look carefully at what you see.
Step 5 — Reading the egg
This is where the ritual becomes deeply informative. The egg reveals what it absorbed from your field.
Clear water, yolk sitting cleanly at the bottom Your energy field is clear. The ritual found nothing significant to remove. This is a good sign — you are in a relatively balanced and clear state.
Bubbles rising from the yolk Bubbles indicate negative energy or the evil eye being absorbed and released. The more bubbles, the more was present. This is actually a positive sign — it means the egg worked.
Cloudy or murky water Cloudiness indicates emotional heaviness, stagnant energy or a period of confusion and difficulty that has been sitting in your field. The murkier the water, the denser the energy that was cleared.
White strings or threads rising upward These indicate that someone has been thinking about you intensely — either with envy, jealousy or negative projection. They can also indicate psychic cords that needed cutting.
Blood in the egg This is rare. It indicates illness — either physical illness already present or energetic illness that could manifest physically if not addressed. This is a signal to pay attention to your health and potentially do additional clearing work.
The yolk has a face or figure in it This is significant. It indicates the presence of an entity, an energetic imprint or a very strong external influence in your field. Additional clearing and protection work is recommended.
Eye shape in the yolk A classic sign of the evil eye — envy or negative projection from someone in your life.
The egg smells bad Eggs do not normally smell immediately after being cracked. A strong smell indicates dense or very heavy energy was absorbed. This is not uncommon after periods of significant stress, illness or energetic attack.
Spikes or points rising from the yolk These indicate blockages — in your path, your energy or your creative flow. They show areas where energy is not moving freely.
Step 6 — Dispose of the egg properly
This is crucial. Do not leave the egg sitting around. Do not put it down the kitchen sink.
Add a pinch of salt to the glass — this neutralises the energy the egg absorbed.
Then flush it down the toilet. The toilet is specifically for removing things from your space and life. This is intentional.
Wash your hands immediately after with cold water and salt if possible.
Step 7 — Close the ritual
Once you have disposed of the egg take a moment to close the ritual intentionally.
Light a candle if you have not already. Take three breaths. Say aloud or in your mind: "I am clear. I am protected. My energy is my own. Only what is aligned with my highest good may enter my field."
Drink a glass of water. Ground yourself. Go outside if you can — put your bare feet on the earth or simply breathe fresh air.
For general maintenance you can do it once a month is enough. During the full moon or new moon is a particularly powerful time.
During periods of stress, illness, energetic attack or major life transitions — you can do it weekly.
If you do a lot of healing work, readings or energy work with others — monthly at minimum.
Energy workers absorb a significant amount from clients and regular clearing is essential.
Always do it after difficult periods. After conflict, loss, illness, or any situation that left you feeling heavy, drained or unlike yourself.
A final note
The egg cleansing is not superstition. It is a sophisticated energetic tool that has stood the test of thousands of years across dozens of cultures. The egg is a natural energetic absorber. Your intention is what directs its work. And your awareness — your willingness to look at what the egg reveals — is what makes it truly transformative.
Try it this week and share what you found in the comments. I would genuinely love to know what came up for you. 🥚🤍
