[NEWS] FDA Poised To Kill Proposal That Would Require Asbestos Testing for Cosmetics
Tom Perkins, The Guardian: “The Food and Drug Administration is poised to kill a proposed rule that would require testing for toxic asbestos in talc-based cosmetics, a problem that has been linked to cancer. Talc is widely used, including in cosmetics, food, medication and personal care products. The order was signed by health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, leader of the ‘Make America Healthy Again’ (MAHA) movement. A stated cornerstone of the movement, which helped propel Donald Trump to office, is to help eliminate toxins like asbestos from food, medicine and personal care products. The move has shocked health campaigners.” It’s hard to understand why we would revoke a rule that simply requires companies to test for asbestos FDA withdraws rule on tests for cancer-causing asbestos in talc-based cosmetics

[NEWS] The Worst Supermarket Fruit and Veg for Pesticides
While this article was written around UK studies, I felt it's important to know. Can you imagine what the US stats are?!?! 😮 Maira Butt writes for Independent: “New tests have revealed the fruit and vegetables most affected by potentially cancer-linked pesticide mixtures. Using data released by the government last month, the Pesticide Action Network (Pan) UK found 12 food items were at risk of a ‘cocktail effect’, meaning several pesticides mixed together increase the toxicity level of the chemicals. While the government’s health and safety food monitoring programs concluded that the vast majority of samples tested contained a safe level of pesticides, Pan UK said the report only tested individual pesticides and not a mix. Grapes were found to be the worst of all the food groups, with one sample containing the residue of at least 16 different pesticides. At least 90% of the 108 grape samples tested contained multiple pesticides. Other foods affected included 79% of 24 lime samples, 67% of 73 banana samples, 49% of 96 sweet pepper specimens and 46% of 97 melons. Chilli peppers were found to contain 11 different pesticides, while one sample of broccoli contained eight.” Read how 123 different chemicals were found in the 17 types of fruit and vegetable tested, which included 42 pesticides with links to cancer and 21 known to interfere with hormone systems READ: “New Scorecard Warns: U.S. Food Retailers Lag on Reducing Harmful Pesticides”

[NEWS] San Francisco Sues Nation’s Top Food Manufacturers Over Ultraprocessed Foods
US News, by Associated Press: “The city of San Francisco filed a lawsuit against some of the nation’s top food manufacturers on Tuesday, arguing that ultraprocessed food from the likes of Coca-Cola and Nestle are responsible for a public health crisis. City Attorney David Chiu named 10 companies in the lawsuit, including the makers of such popular foods as Oreo cookies, Sour Patch Kids, Kit Kat, Cheerios and Lunchables. The lawsuit argues that ultraprocessed foods are linked to diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and cancer. ‘They took food and made it unrecognizable and harmful to the human body,’ Chiu said in a news release. ‘These companies engineered a public health crisis, they profited handsomely, and now they need to take responsibility for the harm they have caused.’” The other companies named in the lawsuit are PepsiCo; Kraft Heinz Company; Post Holdings; Mondelez International; General Mills; Kellogg; Mars Incorporated; and ConAgra Brands

[NEWS] EPA Approves Its Second ‘Forever Chemical’ Pesticide in Two Weeks
More evidence that the "EVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY" is just another pay to play UNCONSTITUTIONAL regulatory agency, designed to bypass the power of the people. The Center for Biological Diversity, Press Release: “WASHINGTON— The Environmental Protection Agency today approved the highly persistent pesticide isocycloseram for golf courses, lawns and food crops such as oranges, tomatoes, almonds, peas, and oats. The pesticide is a ‘forever chemical’ — one of a group called PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Today’s announcement marks the second approval of a PFAS pesticide since Trump took office, with the first approval coming just two weeks before. The administration plans to approve three more PFAS pesticides in the coming year. ‘To approve more PFAS pesticides amid the growing awareness of the serious, long-term dangers from these forever chemicals is absurdly shortsighted,’ said Nathan Donley, environmental health science director at the Center for Biological Diversity.” Read how the undeniable reality is that the current administration is knowingly putting the nation’s children at greater risk of developing serious reproductive and liver harms for generations to come TAKE ACTION: Tell Your State Legislators to Ban Toxic PFAS!

[NEWS] U.S. Commercial Development of Transgenic HB4 GMO Wheat is Now Underway
Capital Press: “Argentina-based Bioceres Crop Solutions Corps and the Colorado Wheat Research Foundation will jointly develop and commercialize HB4 wheat in the United States. HB4 is a transgenic wheat trait that incorporates drought tolerance transferred through a sunflower gene. According to Bioceres, HB4 wheat demonstrated up to a 43% yield improvement in targeted environments. The USDA in August 2024 approved HB4, the first GMO trait ever deregulated in the U.S. for wheat. As part of the collaboration, Bioceres will grant the research foundation ‘exclusive, sublicensable rights’ to the HB4 trait in the U.S. territory. The foundation will serve as ‘trait manager,’ facilitating broad access to HB4 wheat for third-party breeding programs and commercial channels, and leading engagement with U.S. stakeholders, according to a joint announcement from Bioceres and the foundation. The parties will work together with industry participants to develop, register and commercialize new ‘broad-spectrum’ herbicide formulations tailored for HB4 wheat.” Read more about the concerning news about how the plan to develop and commercialize HB4 wheat has begun Learn what makes GMO wheat a really terrible proposition: What’s Wrong with Modern Wheat TAKE ACTION: Tell General Mills To Reject GMO Wheat!
