This is your cool professor, "Professor" Morris! This course explores the multifaceted contributions of contemporary Black American artists to the art world. Students will engage with the work of artists who challenge societal norms, explore identity, and shape cultural narratives through innovative practices. We will study a diverse range of media, including painting, sculpture, performance, digital art, and installation, while contextualizing the works within historical, social, and political frameworks. We will also briefly discuss poetry, literature, sound and music.
I'm an artist, educator, and scholar specializing in global Black perspectives and social sculpture and historical frameworks in contemporary art.
