Maybe We're Not Remembering. Maybe We're Rewriting.
(aka Some of us are lying to ourselves. And we may not know it.)
We tell the story so many times that eventually... we forget we wrote it.
We turn assumptions into facts.
Feelings into evidence.
Memories into convenient edits.
And our version of events into the truth.
Then someone says, “That's not what happened” or worse “That doesn’t seem right”, and suddenly they're the problem.
The mind is remarkably good at protecting the story we need to believe.
We explain away the contradictions.
We reinterpret the facts.
We fill in the blanks.
We collect anything that confirms our version.
Until something fascinating happens: the story stops feeling like a story. It feels like reality.
And now we're no longer defending what happened.
We're defending the reality we've built around what happened.
Here's the uncomfortable part: None of us are completely immune.
The human mind doesn't just record reality.
It interprets it. It edits it. It fills in the gaps.
So ask yourself: Am I defending the truth... or defending the version of myself that needs this story to be true? And WHY am I doing it?
Because certainty isn't proof.
And a story repeated often enough doesn't magically become history.
Sometimes it's just a very well-rehearsed story.
PS.: We can’t get where we want to go if we’re not honest about where we are.
Awareness first.
Direction second.
Transformation follows. 🧭
