Learning Resiliency From Nature
A pair of Red House Finches built a nest across the street in an 8 foot Colorado Blue Spruce. The other day, a Raven discovered it and devoured the eggs while the little finches could only protest. They watched their plans be destroyed.
Undaunted, they very quickly and quietly built a new nest in my yard. It's in the center of a thick shrub blocked on two sides by my house and a tall lattice. It would be very hard for the Raven to get to. Never the less, the vigilant little finches watch for the Raven and it keeps coming back. When it does, one of the finches goes and sits in the OLD nest until the Raven chases it off. The Raven discovers that no more eggs have been laid there yet. He does not realize none will be.
We live in a world filled with difficulties. Many that we perceive as bad, really are not in the big picture. We can learn a lot from those little finches.
