Fasting

I've been fasting at work so my eating period is 4pm to 8pm. And I've been thinking about challenging myself to do a three day fast which is good for the body's rebooting. Well I told my husband that and he mentioned a 40 day fast. And I told him no way that's like a months worth of not eating. But looking into it, it mostly says that people did a 40 day fast to get closer to God, which makes since. But my question is, anyone fasted and what's your longest fasting period?
