Why We Don’t Rush Games in K–3
Parents, One thing I want to reinforce about our Kids Program: We don’t start with games. And that’s intentional. At the K–3 level, development should focus on: • Balance • Coordination • Ball control • Confidence • Simple decision-making Games are exciting. Games don’t build foundations. Reps do. Correction does. Structure does. In a game, a young player might only touch the ball for a short amount of time. That’s not enough to build real skill or confidence. That’s why our sessions look the way they do. We’re building long-term confidence not short-term chaos. We want kids who feel comfortable with the ball, who move with control, and who know what they’re trying to do. That’s how confidence grows. Play With Intention. Now I’d love to hear from you 👇 Have you noticed a difference in your child’s confidence or control when they get consistent reps in a structured setting? Or is there something you’ve seen in games that made you realize they need more foundational work? Drop your thoughts below I love hearing what you’re seeing from the parent side.
Why We Don’t Rush Games in K–3
🏀 Intention Monday
This week’s goal: Try your best! You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to try. Trying helps you get better and stronger every time. 👉 Parents: praise effort, not results. 💬 Ask your player: "What does trying your best look like today?”

🎄Intention Monday Holiday Week
This week’s intention is simple: Let kids be kids. Rest, play, laugh, and enjoy time with family. That joy and energy is what helps young athletes grow — on and off the court. We’ll be ready to get back to movement, confidence, and fun very soon.

🧠 INTENTION MONDAYS
"Don’t ask: Why didn’t you shoot? Ask: What was your intention on that play?” Elite players don’t drive to see what happens. They drive with a shot in mind and force the defense to adjust. 👉 Score until stopped. Most players: → Drive → Hope → Hesitate Hested Hoops players: → Drive → Attack → Adjust only if stopped 💡 Parent Shift: Confidence is built by focusing on intention, not results. Instead of: ❌ “Why didn’t you shoot?” Try: ✅ “What shot were you hunting?” ✅ “Did the defense actually stop you?” 👇 Intention for the week: What shot do you want your player attacking when they drive. Have a great week!!!

🧠 INTENTION MONDAYS
Play With Intention (K–3 Edition)
If you’re just dribbling to dribble… you’re already behind.” Most young players just drive with no plan → the defense decides what happens. We want your kid to play with intention → they decide what happens. For our younger players, “intention” is simple: 👉 Know what you want to do before the ball hits the floor. Shoot it? Pass it? Drive it? Don’t just go “because the ball is in your hands.” Parent Quick Note 👇 Every Monday, we’ll break down a small piece of my Play With Intention Course in K–3 language so you can: - Use the same words we use in the gym - Help your player build good habits early - Grow their confidence without pressure Please watch this short video together with your player. Ask them one simple question after: “What was your plan on that play?” Then comment “Watched 👀” once you’ve both seen it. This helps your young hooper start learning the mental side of the game early and helps us build a stronger, smarter Hested Hoops family together. 🏀🔥
