Prepping for the week of May 4th - 10th
May the 4th be with you and Feliz Cinco de Mayo.
This week I am focusing on making sure durable medical stuff is stocked up.
We have fire season coming so respiratory support items like checking the indoor air filter and we are going to get a 12v compatible oxygen concentrator for my husband (who has a serious respiratory condition), to be backup for the house unit we already have.
When wildfires are near power lines, the power company will shut off power to the area to prevent ground arcs and keep firefighters safe. It poles are significantly damaged, it could be days before power is restored.
I'm on the road in different directions 5 out of 7 days this week. 2 for medical appointments, one for errands, and a day selling at the farmers market, plus a mommy/son date to the AKC dog show in town on Saturday. So I am keeping my expectations as low as I can.
We are in the 3rd quarter of the moon this week, so this is the ideal week to transplant things either into bigger pots or the ground. This includes fruit trees. It is best to transplant trees before it gets hot, so they can establish roots before they get heat stressed. I will be putting out the sunflower seeds I soaked for the last two weeks and the herb starts I picked up Saturday.
It is also a good week for direct planting root crops like carrots, beets and radishes. If you haven't planted potatoes yet, this is a great time. Yes you can just put those sprouted potatoes in your pantry into the ground and they will grow potatoes. Plant them about 6" down and keep the soil damp but not soggy.
What spring inspiration are you following this week?
Drop your favorite may the 4th or Cinco de Mayo gif below!
Fun fact: I went to an elementary school that was 30% Spanish speaking, so Cinco de Mayo always had dancing and music. I even learned the dances with the big ribbon dresses. Super fun!
