This is a research and resource group: We do experiments to learn things—like learning how to cook and learning to find foods that work well for us. We set up these experiments using information from ancient people who had a straight-forward agenda: to be healthy and live well. We collect the results of our experiments and share it, making the traditions more understandable and easier to use for others. We also test the ideas of ancient people from Asia and Central America who were the best scientists of their day, who did things modern people no longer understand or know how to do. By doing what they did, we realize that civilization is not what it claims to be. Those are the two basic programs here: Eating Awake and Civilization Undressed. In >Eating Awake< we work from two sources: What people ate from all over the world, covered in the books Nourishing Traditions (about 600 pages) and Nourishing Diets, and the part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) about food and herbs showcased in the book, the Tao of Healthy Eating (about 140 pages) and Healing With Whole Foods (750 pages). It is a 3000+ year tradition that tells us what different plants, animals, and minerals are good for—what they help us with. Using this information helps us eat in a way that takes care of our bodies, not just our emotions. We can actually eat what makes us strong, healthy, and energized. There is no "one way" in this system. There are hundreds of ways to match what we individually need, and figuring out what we need is part of the process. To do that, understanding our own body is important, directly, like in a conversation. It is telling us things every day, even the parts that are breaking. TCM helps us hear what it is saying, and points us to what might help. So there are really two parts to this: Getting to know our own body and what it needs, and learning what might help and trying things until something works. I have been doing this for over 30 years, using TCM to understand my situation and using the foods of traditional people to improve it. The food I make has to be easy to make, uncomplicated—very few ingredients, only a few things at a time, and powerfully tasty, This is not the pretty food club. This is how to make food you love that does the job club. Here you will learn how to make raw, sprouted, fermented, and cooked food from animals, vegetables, minerals, and herbs that achieve specific health and healing goals. And you will learn it by doing short projects you can do in a few hours.
Reply to Mysha's questions about energy, sacred geometry, etc.
Alright, let's riff: Sacred geometry relates to matter, light, and sound. According to the Vedas, matter precipitates through sound. Have you ever been to a Vedic temple? There are these little mini temples or shrines built in specific obvious forms and structures. As you enter them, you can feel or hear a pulsation in them. And as you stay in them, that pulsation resets you in a different frequency, a different vibration. It can be very noticeable. The visitor is clearly being shifted to a different channel of reality where things are evident that were not evident before, and other things, that seemed important or real, are no longer noticeable. // Energy and our connection to the Earth relates to this: In those temples, one removes the shoes. The negative pole of the body (the feet) absorbs the energy of the Earth and matches her signal harmoniously. In the past century, a master of healing named Randolph Stone (who had doctorates in three major healing methods) realized that there was an energy aligning everything, including bones, putting everything in place. He went to the Himalayas with a kit of advanced electronic equipment and measured the energy flow patterns through the bodies of advanced yogis. Many of these yogis had siddhis: powers beyond those of regular people. They could levitate, bilocate or do other things most of us cannot. Stone wanted to know how the energy was flowing differently in them: uninhibited, unrepressed, unconditioned by social forces. He took his data and devised a system for disinhibiting regular people energetically; it is called Polarity Therapy. The best book on it is by Franklyn Sills, The Polarity Process. It specifies how energy works in the human body, along the lines of what we have mentioned so far, and how to modulate it in ourselves and others. // The Pineal Gland: The master gland of the brain, the only individual, unpaired organelle in the brain, is hugely sensitive to light. When the Cultural Revolution happened in China, the "revolutionaries" -- who were actually in league with brutal Western capitalists --- went after all the Taoist masters (to kill them) so that the technological, militarized government could operate uncontested. These masters understood the pineal gland and its secrets. Like the Yogis of the Himalayas, they could do things normal people could not. They too were part of the Mahasiddha tradition that stretched from Japan, through China, Tibet, India, to the Middle East. The masters fled China to Taiwan, Thailand, and other neighboring areas. Mantak Chia studied with those Taoist masters. (I understand from friends that he is not to be trusted, personally, as he is predatory, but some of the information and practices he provides are very valuable). One of the things he has people do is live underground in a lightless place for a number of weeks. It apparently resets the pineal gland and restores our natural range of perception and interpretation without distortion by social influences -- the pressure to perceive what those around us are perceiving, to fit in, be polite, and not notice or mention anything uncomfortable. As social mammals, we are built to depend on others. We are sensitive to their emotional signals and instinctually inhibit our perception and action to be acceptable to them -- to ensure we continue to get their support or are at least able to transact with them. Yogis and Taoists go the other direction, deliberately seeking the signal of the Earth and the Cosmos to orient to, and deliberately breaking affiliation with the social signal and the information it provides. // The Toltecs, whose tradition is covered heavily in this Skool, are the Central American version of the Taoists and Yogis, with the important distinction of operating in lineages of spiritual families that include both men and women members and leaders and pass down information generationally. They are both separate from society and supported socially by groups of cohorts (usually 9 - 18 members per group). The Taoists and Yogis tend to be male, and their leaders are over 95% male. The majority of Toltecs are female. About 2/3 of most groups are female and exactly half the leaders are female. The groups, called parties, are arranged according to Sacred Geometry. Toltecs recognize that the universe is a sphere composed of tetrahedra (four sided structures like pyramids), and that the inherent geometry of the cosmos gives rise both to quantity and structure (form) and to quality. The party is divided into four directions that each have specific characteristics. The men and women of each direction are all alike and consistent, generation after generation. Sacred Geometry produces 4 basic energy shapes in people that give us our qualities (and in women there are two variations for each direction). making 12 basic energy body configurations that nearly every human can be classified in. Knowing our shape helps us understand our purpose and mode of action. There is also a special, very rare, shape for leaders, that has the qualities of all 4 directions, and an even more rare shape for leaders that end lineages, that usually occur only once in 52 generations, that has only 3 of the 4 directions. // I hope this was interesting. People have methodically studied the topics you named for thousands of years. This is a place to learn about what they found. I am delighted to know what you are curious about. I tend to lead with the everyday stuff, like cooking, but knowing that folks are interested in the more esoteric stuff, I am happy to go there, in practical ways. Ideas and beliefs run the risk of being casual fancies. Putting them into earnest practice gives us traction in our lives and enlists us in the great traditions ourselves, validating what others have discovered and building on it usefully....
