Miasm - an inherited or acquired predisposition to disease
A miasm is an inherited or acquired predisposition to disease. It's the deep layer of susceptibility that runs through a person's constitution and influences the kinds of health problems they tend to develop. The concept was introduced by Samuel Hahnemann (the 'father of homeopathy') who identified three primary miasms: Psora, Sycosis, and Syphilis (later expanded by other homeopaths). Today, we mainly focus on the Psoric, Sycotic, Syphillitic, Tubercular and Carcinogenic miasms. A miasmatic remedy is one that works at this deeper layer, addressing not just current symptoms but the underlying pattern that keeps pulling a person back into illness. One of the most common remedies we have been prescribing in RMDY Academy (the school I am currently in for my advanced practitioner of homeopathy cert) is Carcinosin. With the ever-increasing prevalence of cancer and cancer in family lines, it has been an integral part of so many individual's homeopathic protocols. It's not uncommon for me to prescribe a miasmatic remedy and a constitutional remedy for an initial prescription for an individual. This way, I KNOW that I am addressing the key components of the individuals case both in the present and if there is any predisposition that could be altering their vital force too. A few key points that may help you understand 'miasms' more: - if an individual keeps regressing even if they are on a well indicated constitutional or acute remdy, it may be a clear sign that there is some sort of deeper miasmatic layer that needs to be addressed first - your homeopath might choose a miasmatic remedy not because it matches your current symptom picture perfectly, but because it has an affinity for the deeper pattern at the core - understanding an individual's miasmatic pattern can help explain why two different individuals with similar illnesses can have totally different symptoms and their own way of expressing illness I'll dive into the specific miasms in a later post! What questions do you have about miasms?

Simillimum - the best fitting remedy in the optimal dose!
Alright - here goes nothing for the Homeo Lingo tab! Like duo-lingo but homeopathy version 😂 What's the simillimum? A simillimum remedy? A simillimum remedy is simply the best fitting remedy to match the symptom picture given in the optimal dose for the individual! The simillimum is the single remedy that most closely matches the totality of a person's symptoms — physical, mental, and emotional. It's the "most similar" remedy to who you are and what you're experiencing, chosen based on the law of similars: like cures like. Finding the simillimum is the goal of classical homeopathic prescribing. There may be several remedies that partially fit your case, but the simillimum is the one that fits the whole person — not just the diagnosis. And it's important to note - the simillimum remedy may change over time. As symptoms evolve or shift, a different simillimum may be chosen further down the protocol to match the shifting of symptoms. If a remedy works beautifully for a while and then seems to stop, it's sometimes a sign that the simillimum has shifted as the case has evolved. Another perspective of the simillimum can be in acute or emergent prescribing too! The goal is always to find the best fitting remedy for the individual's unique presentation of symptoms. Not everyone responds the same to a broken bone injury - some may have more nerve pain, while others feel more deeply bruised, or some may have had to have surgery to repair the injury. There will be different well indicated simillimum remedies for each of these injury presentations! Once you find and take the simillimum in the optimal dose, the body's natural direction of cure will follow 😊 What questions do you have about the simillimum in homeopathy?!

Homeopathy Language
I don't know if it was a dream last night or a fleeting thought as I was drifting off to sleep, but I was thinking back to one of my very first calls I dropped into with learning more about homeopathy. I almost felt like they were talking a different language - using words like 'miasm', 'simillimum', 'fibonacci sequence', 'kentian homochord', 'constitutional remedy', 'direction of cure'. My mind was like 🧠*what*the*actual*heck* are they talking about?! 4 years later, here I am talking in this language myself and often forgetting that most people don't have the faintest idea of what any of these words mean 😅 It's my hope that by hanging around this community long enough, you can pick up on the language and true essence of homeopathy too! Not just to confuse the heck out of other people, but so you can feel empowered using and reaching for this potent medicine when the needs arise for you, your family, loved ones and neighbors! SOOO . . . my question for YOU today is: What words and terms in the homeopathy world are you currently super confused by and have no idea whatsoever what they mean?! 💜
