We know that our subconscious is always running in the background, scanning our surroundings, keeping our bodies working and picking up the patterns of the environment around us, but does that mean that we are always dreaming in the background? Jung thought so, he not only observed that the unconscious is continuously active but is also speaking to us through the language of symbolism, at every waking moment, saying that, “dreaming is a continuous process, one which does not cease when we wake.” and, “the psyche is constantly at work, creating symbols day and night.” This idea would explain why we daydream when we slip into a relaxed state.
