The Trader’s Torn Jacket
There was a guy on my trading floor who wore the same jacket for ten years. Elbow ripped, lining shot, pockets barely hanging on.
But every Friday, he wrote the biggest checks to his investment account.
One day, someone mocked him: “Why don’t you upgrade that jacket?”
He replied, “Because my portfolio wears the nicest clothes in the room.”
He retired at 52. The guy who mocked him didn’t make it past 40 on the Street.
Lesson: Status buys applause. Discipline buys freedom.
