Me: Jesus… why do You always tell us to be kind? Some people are so rude.
Friend: Exactly! Yesterday someone snapped at me in the grocery store for no reason.
Me: I would’ve answered back honestly.
Jesus: And what if that person was fighting a battle you could not see?
Me: Hmm… like what?
Jesus: Some smile while carrying pain. Some laugh while feeling lonely. Some are exhausted from battles they never speak about.
Friend: That’s true… sometimes even I pretend I’m okay.
Me: Wait… YOU?You act like a motivational speaker 24/7.
Friend: That’s because if I stop joking, I might cry.
Me: Oh…oh
Jesus: This is why kindness matters. You never fully know what someone carries inside. Me: Wow… meanwhile I get upset when someone replies “K.” in a text message.
Friend: To be fair, “K” feels aggressive. 😭
Jesus: Humans create entire wars from one-letter messages.
Me: Accurate, Lord.
Friend: So being kind is not weakness?
Jesus: No.Kindness is strength under control.
Me: Even when people don’t deserve it?
Jesus: I was kind to people who mocked Me.
Friend: Ouch… okay that puts things in perspective.
Me: Jesus watching us complain while someone next to us silently fights anxiety, grief, fear, or loneliness…
Jesus: Sometimes the smallest kindness becomes the reason someone keeps going.
Friend: So a smile, a prayer, a kind word… it matters?
Jesus: More than you know.
Me: Alright Lord… I’ll try to be softer with people.
Friend: Except when I steal your fries.
Me: That’s a different spiritual battle. 🍟😂
Jesus: I shall pray for both of you.
Lesson:Every person carries struggles we may never see. Kindness, patience, and compassion can bring light into someone’s difficult day. Treat people gently because your words may heal more than you realize.
Verse:Ephesians 4:32 —“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
