RASI 2022 - Portugal's Crime Statistics
Considering that many people move to Portugal due to its classification as one of the most peacefull countries in the world, I must remember that it's not a paradise, a crime free place. Because of that, I'll place here some official statistics regarding reported crimes in 2022.
3 most reported types of crime:
Crimes against property (mostly thefts) - 174 268
Crimes against people (mostly domestic violence against spouse or similar; assault; threat and coercion) - 85 841
Crimes against life in society (DUI alcohol equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l, fire, arson in forest) - 44 015
The 12 crimes with most complaints/reports were:
Domestic violence against spouse or similar - 26 073
DUI alcohol equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l - 22 071
Assault/physical violence - 21 667
Theft inside a motor vehicle - 21 659
Computer and communications fraud - 20 901
Other scams - 19 716
Other types of damage - 15 913
Threat and coercion - 15 226
Driving without a legal license - 14 265
Opportunity theft of unsaved object - 9 905
Theft in a residence with forced entry, climbing or false keys - 9 276
Motor vehicle theft - 8 096
In term of serious crimes, here are some examples:
Voluntary homicide - 97
Rape - 519
Bank robbery or similar - 14
Robbery of goldsmith shop - 17
Vehicle robbery (carjacking) - 124
Residential robbery - 529
