I Built a Tool to Help You Never Miss a Planting Date Again
Hey Rooted Crew 👋 One of the things that used to stress me out every spring was trying to figure out when to start seeds. Should tomatoes start now? Am I late on peppers? Did I miss the window for cabbage? So I finally built something that solves that problem. I made a Planting Timeline Tool that calculates when to start seeds based on your last frost date. You just enter your information and it shows you: 🌱 When to start seeds indoors 🌱 When to transplant outside 🌱 When to direct sow crops 🌱 A simple visual planting schedule The goal was to make something simple enough for beginners but still useful for serious gardeners. You can try it here: 👉 [Planting Timeline Calendar] Why I Made This Honestly… I built it because I kept seeing people overwhelmed by seed starting. The truth is: Most gardening frustration comes from timing mistakes, not bad gardening. If the timing is right…a lot of problems disappear. I’d Love Your Feedback If you try the tool, tell me: • Did it make sense? • What crops should be added? • Anything confusing? I’m planning to add more tools like this for the community. Things like: 🧮 Soil mix calculators 🌾 Living soil calculators 🌱 Bed spacing planners 🌿 KNF schedules Basically a full homestead toolkit. So your feedback actually helps shape what gets built next. Challenge 🌿 Drop a comment with: 📍 Your growing zone🌱 The first seeds you’re starting this year Let’s see what everyone is planting.
🚨 It’s LIVE: Seedling Mix Calculator🌱
If you’ve ever stood over a tote like… “okay but how much perlite is too much?” 😅 this one’s for you. ✅ Plug in your container size + how many you’re filling ✅ It spits out the exact gallons (and easy units if you want) ✅ Peat vs coco is built in (lime math included) 👉 Use it here: [Seedling Soil Mix Calculator – Wisconsin Homestead] If you try it, comment what you’re planting first (tomatoes? peppers? herbs?) 👇🌿 If you have improvement ideas, please let me know.
Quick Rooted Crew update: the Seedling Mix Calculator is being built 🌱
Rooted Crew — quick update from the dirt. 😄🌱 I’m building something I wish I had when I first started mixing seed-starting soil… ✅ A Seedling Mix Calculator that lets you plug in your container size + how many you’re filling, and it spits out the exact amounts for: - peat or coco - perlite - worm castings - and lime (only when peat is selected) And because gallons can feel like a weird “adult math” unit… I’m also adding a toggle that translates amounts into quarts / cups (when small) / and even “about ¼ of a 5-gal bucket” so a teen could use it without needing a physics degree. 😅 Why I’m building it: I want our soil to be repeatable. Not “I think that was… two scoops?”If we can repeat it, we can actually test what’s working — and that’s how we get real results worth sharing. 🚧 What’s still being finished right now - Reset + print recipe card (so you can tape it to a tote) - QR codes on the printout (so you can jump straight to the next step) - A clean “tools + supplies” section with transparent affiliate disclosure (the ethical way) 👀 If you want to help, Drop a comment with: 1. What containers you start seeds in (cell trays? solo cups? 1-gal? 5-gal?) 2. What always goes wrong for you (gnats? damping off? leggy seedlings?) 3. Any “I don’t understand this unit” moments you’ve had 😄 I’ll post a preview link as soon as it’s testable, and if you want, I’ll shout out the Rooted Crew members whose feedback helped shape it. Let’s build soil that actually shows up for us. 🌿🪴— Sprouting Homestead
