New guy intro: I'm a little freaked out right now...
Hey everyone!
So I'm the new guy here, and I gotta be honest - I'm equal parts inspired and anxious right now.
My name is Bill Hazelton, and before I say anything else, I need to give some shoutouts to people who've already made an impact on me:
- watching how you engage people is inspiring. You're intentional, thoughtful, purposeful, compassionate and, above all, you're just a really cool dude. It's a privilege to walk amongst such good humans like yourself.
- one of my first networking/discovery calls on Skool was with Jack. He got me rethinking the just 'one thing' idea more deeply - being singular in my focus on Synthesizer - and how important that is. He didn't tell me anything, he just posed the question. Thank you for that Jack.
- another one of my first discovery calls was with Brandon. The one thing that I took away from the conversation with him was 'Man, I wish I had my thinking dialed-in like he does when I was 28'. I could barely tie my shoes when I was 28. It's leaders like you Brandon that are gonna change the world.
- Sam kinda freaks me out a little bit if I'm being honest. She has this activity super power which is pretty dumbfounding. I thought I did a lot, but she's got this thing where she clones herself or just doesn't sleep or I dunno, it's just something I haven't figured out. Kinda equal parts inspiration and anxiety inducing when I see all the stuff she does. I don't even know you, but mad respect to you right out of the gate Sam.
- just been super engaged with Lukas as well. Another heavy hitter here on Synth with great insight and feedback. Yet another quality human walking the halls around here. BTW, I have no idea what a 'mycorrhizal relationship' is. I'm afraid to ask actually.
- I don't know Mirtha yet either but she's another infectious personality that's an absolute magnet. Like Sam, she kinda freaks me out a little bit with her level of energy. But clearly, Mirtha's yet another super inspiring transformational leader around here that makes it a privilege to be here with you all.
So what brought me here? I've been working with communities and helping businesses with client acquisition for a while now. I understand showing up for people, building real relationships, that whole approach. But watching what's happening here in Skool made me realize I've been missing something.
The energy here, the way people engage - it's different.
So here I am.
Truth be told, I've been using Skool as a platform for another community I've been a part of for a few years, but hadn't been super engaged. I've gotta learn by doing and asking questions, so you'll probably see me poking around trying things and occasionally going "wait, how did that just happen?"
The thing I'm trying to figure out is how to maintain genuine, personal engagement as things grow. Right now I can respond to everyone, but I'm watching my calendar fill up and thinking 'how do I keep this level of personal touch sustainable?'
Watching Sam do it is both motivating and a little intimidating if I'm being completely honest.
I'm here to learn and contribute, not to sell anything. I've learned over the years that when I focus on helping people and building real relationships, everything else tends to work itself out. That's always been my approach, and it's worked far better than when I've put money first.
My main goal is just to watch, learn, share my experience and be helpful - it's really as simple as that for me. And yeah, I'll probably overthink community dynamics a little with anyone patient enough to listen.
What made you take the leap into 'The Game'?
