On the subject of Improv
Okay so who is up for a little challenge? All levels. Wherever you are you can try this. Just learn the "natural" notes on the B string. That's the white key notes on a piano. No sharps (#'s) No flats (♭'s). Just BC D EF G A BC ... Any fingers, no hidden trip lines... just the B string 🤘😎 Good luck
Fret School Club YouYube Channel started
I'm still here... I just posted the first of weekly videos to be posted on the Fret School Club Youtube channel. Some of you can use these as mini courses if you use the timestamps and link libraries in the description section of the video to see related videos. For you more advanced guys you may want to look at : the beginning voice leading example https://youtu.be/1cozgsaU_WE (Years of Theory in 20 min) or the drop2 voicing exercise (3 Shapes all Chords All Keys ) https://youtu.be/8bAn72bPflk Let me know your thoughts about monthly live online meetings Still kicking 😅
Improvisation for the Brave
I'm trying out a new "publishing" arrangement for two tracks. One with copyright licensing (not my tune) for commision and one "original composition". The latter being a contrafact from the changes to the song All of Me. Now, hands up, I am not a jazz player. I don't even play one on TV. (there's a pun there I think). This was just an excerpt from an online lesson on the subject of Secondary Dominants... BUT... to the few of you who've asked about playing over ('through' is a better word) changes, and the few that have embraced the "dog walk the dog..." and... "1625 blues"... you may want to have a look at this old video and PDF and the *description of this now UNlisted video. As a bonus there is a *link to all the drop 2 voicings we happened to be looking at in the last posting (3 Shapes All chord All keys) Let me know thoughts, questions or concerns. Happy playing! phew! long day!

3 Chord Shapes All chords in All Keys now public
This is an introduction to 'drop 2' voicings (A String Root) for you guys that are learning about them, or if you are a teacher maybe this approach can work with some of your guys... These voicings are a great for arranging or when used as an improvisational tool when looking for melodic lines. Again, a lot of calls coming from OUTside the house... feedback from fret schoolers much appreciated. Happy playing ! 🤩
Just Starting?
If you're just starting out have a look at this diagram and fretboard orientation video. I'm working my way through questions but I'm moving roughly in order of level/difficulty. For you guys with more experience don't forget that many of the videos are already released unlisted and can be accessed via the "link libraries" in each video description. All videos have timestamp/chapters. You can use these timestamps to treat these videos as mini courses. Take notes, return to specific places, skip to points of study etc... make the most of the information.
