ERP Strategies in Freight Forwarding: Build or Buy?

I’m curious how many freight forwarders here operate on proprietary software versus using off-the-shelf solutions like CargoWise.

Has anyone done a deep comparison between the two approaches — especially around scalability, integration, and user adoption? I’d love to hear what factored most into your decision.

I’ve worked with forwarders that developed their own ERP systems and others that implemented CargoWise. While I haven’t personally led a CargoWise migration, I’ve spoken with colleagues who’ve been through it — and their experiences have been quite varied.
